Bookkeeping Services for Small Businesses
Up-to-date books mean fewer surprises, cheaper year-end accounts and a clear view of how your business is doing. We'll connect you with a local bookkeeper or accountant who'll keep on top of them for you.

What a bookkeeper does
- Reconciles your bank accounts and card transactions
- Records sales invoices and supplier bills, and chases what you're owed
- Matches receipts to expenses so nothing is missed
- Prepares the figures for VAT returns, payroll and Making Tax Digital updates
- Gives you regular reports on profit and cash flow

Cloud bookkeeping software
Most bookkeepers work in cloud software such as Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage. Your bank feeds straight in, you snap receipts on your phone and your bookkeeper and accountant can see the same figures as you. If you're still using spreadsheets or a shoebox of receipts, they can move you over.
Bookkeeper or accountant?
A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day records. An accountant prepares your year-end accounts and tax returns and advises you on tax. Many accountancy practices do both, which saves passing information back and forth.
Bookkeeping questions
How much does a bookkeeper cost?
It depends on how many transactions you have. A small business might pay from around £50 to £300 a month. Many bookkeepers quote a fixed monthly fee once they've seen your records.
Do I need bookkeeping software for Making Tax Digital?
Yes. VAT-registered businesses, and sole traders and landlords within Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, must keep digital records and file from compatible software. A bookkeeper can set it up for you.
Can a bookkeeper catch up on months of missing records?
Yes. Catch-up bookkeeping is common. Expect a one-off charge to bring everything up to date before a regular monthly fee.
